The Mind, Ideals, and The Mark of the Lamb
A Search For God; Chapter on Meditation
Paragraphs 11-12
When you meditate, there are real changes and activities that happen within your body. These changes happen through what we have chosen for our ideal, either as a group, or individually. This all starts in the MIND. You (or the group) will choose an Ideal. We will talk more about Ideals later, but basically, the Ideal is the standard which you live by, which should be the highest standard that you can imagine. So, you choose to focus on your Ideal as you meditate. You focus on the Ideal with your MIND. You then shut out “carnal forces.” Carnal things are things related to our bodies. So we shut out thoughts of sex, food, negative emotions, and money. We also shut out the things of the world, like cars, money, houses, friends, TV, responsibility, work, and school. So we shut out worldly and carnal things, and we put all of our mind’s focus on our Ideal. As you do this, the changes within your body begin to happen in a natural way.
If the picture or idea which you have chosen for meditation is a part of your Ideal, and not anything less, and you are trying to raise your own self up to that higher standard of life, then you (and your ideal) “bear the mark of Lamb.” You basically are marking yourself with Christ, or the Holy One, or the Son. These are all names of the same thing. It is by this mark that we can enter into the presence of God. In other words, we enter into deep meditation, into the presence of God, “in the name of Jesus” or “through Christ.” How? By emptying our mind of worldly and carnal forces and then by focusing on our Ideal. But the Ideal has to be the highest standard that we can imagine, consistent with what Jesus the Christ lived and taught, both by His words and by His example. So through THAT Ideal, and ONLY through that Ideal, we can approach the throne of God, and we can do it from within ourselves.
