Home Enemas

Colonic hydrotherapy and enemas are not habit forming, and may be done not more often than once per week.

Colon hydrotherapy is generally very safe if you do not have any contraindications, including:

Cancers; Cirrhosis of the liver; Ulcerative colitis; Chron’s disease; Diverticulitis; Kidney disease; Uncontrolled blood pressure; Rectal bleeding; Bleeding hemorrhoids; Hernias; Women breast feeding; First and third trimester of pregnancy; Recent surgery; Blood thinning medication like Coumadin (warfarin).

To do your own enema at home, buy a Home Enema Kit for under $15.00 from Wal-Mart or your local pharmacy.

Follow the directions on the box to set up your enema bag and hoses.

Use warm water.  You may add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda for each quart of water used.  Do not add salt or baking soda if you are on a salt/sodium restricted diet, if you have congestive heart failure, if you have any water or fluid overload disease states, or if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure.  If so, then just use plain waterIf you are not sure or want to use extra water, than just use plain water to be safe.

1 quart of water at a time is a good amount to use, but never force any more water than is comfortable.

Hang up the bag no more than 3 feet above your body. I generally hang up the bag on the bathroom door handle and lie down on the floor.

Lie down on your left side, and place your right leg in front of your left.

Use plenty of Vaseline on the tip of the enema hose, and gently insert the end into your rectum.

Use the control button to gently fill your colon with water. If you start to feel crampy or uncomfortable, stop the water flow and take some slow deep breaths until you feel more comfortable. Then restart the flow at a slower rate.

Try to use the entire quart, but if you feel at any time that it is too much for you or that you are cramping and it is not relieved with deep breathing, then stop your enema and sit on the toilet.

If you are able to comfortably take in all of the water, gently remove the enema tip from the rectum and place the tip in the sink or the bathtub. Be sure to remember to sterilize the tip ASAP, with lots of soap and water. Then soak the tip in alcohol. Then rinse thoroughly with water.

Try to hold the water inside of your colon for up to 15 minutes. During this time period, you can lay on your back, sides, or get on your hands and knees. In each position, you can wiggle your abdomen, massage your abdomen with Castor Oil, and bounce your hips against the floor to loosen any stool that may be adhering to your colon.

After 2 to 15 minutes- or when you feel that you can not hold it in any more- sit on the toilet and have a bowel movement. You may find that you are going back and forth to the toilet for up to 1 hour or so until all of the water has come out.  If you are going to go for round 2 and/or round 3, then you should wait about 15 minutes in between each enema.

You may repeat the enema up to 3 times in one day. If repeated 3 times in a row, this is a very complete cleansing, and almost as effective as a colonic hydrotherapy session.
